Editing Description

Last Updated: May 21, 2015 04:34PM PDT

‚ÄčThe Description of a photo will allow you to include and edit metadata fields for several elements of your photographs including:

The data in those fields help search engines to catalog the contents of your site and improve your site's Search Engine Optimization (SEO).    If you would like your site and its contents to be displayed in search results, it is important that you fill in these fields with descriptive text that accurately describes the contents of the gallery, group or photo.

‚ÄčEXIF and IPTC metadata information can also be important in providing context information about your photographs. Zenfolio will correctly read and display relevant EXIF and IPTC fields, if included in your original files.

The Description for each area of metadata can be edited per photo, by selecting a photo in the Edit View, and clicking on the Photo Details. Once you have edited the
Photo Properties, you can click Save and Next to easily go to and edit the next photo in the gallery.

Keywords

It is recommended that you add Keywords to galleries and photographs. Keywords are the main means of finding your photographs and galleries when using Search, and you can add any number of keywords including keyword phrases.

Once you have added keywords they will be visible in Visitor View, under Photo Info as live links, if enabled. Clicking any keyword will automatically execute a search of your Zenfolio pages for all photos with the same keyword. The search results will display in three categories: galleries, collections and photos.

Note: This search will only display results from your Zenfolio pages, not including photos from other users.

You should use keywords to describe the subject matter of the photograph as well as reflect the style and mood of your photos.

We do recommend using only relevant terms in these fields and to avoid keyword stuffing.  Keyword stuffing is when many words are added to the keywords field that are not highly relevant to the subject matter of the image.  Keyword stuffing is detrimental to your site's SEO.

Use commas to separate keywords and keyword phrases. To create a keyword phrase, use quotation marks to surround several keywords together, for example "winter storm" or "Yellowstone National Park".

Note: Keywords can be assigned separately for galleries and photographs.

You can assign keywords to any photo or gallery by editing the Description

  1. In Edit View, go to Photos.
  2. In the Organizer, click to select the item containing the photograph, gallery, group or collection you would like to edit or double-click it in the Main Area. Thumbnails will load in the Main Area and the title will display at the top.
